First released in 1984 to coincide with the Los Angeles Olympics, Daley Thompson's Decathlon is Ocean's take on an athletics game. You control double Olympic Champion Daley himself through all 10 events in the competition. Although all events are included, the control method stays the same with fast left to tight movement of the joystick required to generate speed. The fire button needs to be held and released to get the optimum angle in throwing and jumping events and just pressed to initiate a jump over a hurdle.

You start the game with 4 lives and lose a life every time you fail to meet the qualifying standard. Running events have just one attempt whereas other events give you 3 attempts to set the best score. World Records are also available to be beaten and your score is based on the time, height or distance you achieve. Completing the gruelling 1500 metres which is the last event results in restarting the 10 events but with harder qualification levels to achieve.

Running event are displayed split screen with another athlete at the top of the screen. This is computer controlled in single player mode but a two player options is available with simultaneous running events with other events being turned based.

Daley Thompson's Decathlon was included in the 1985 compilation "They Sold a Million" released by The Hit Squad and was also released as a budget title for £2.99 by the same company.
